Connecting Schools, Families, and Community Resources (The Story Behind AP 301-2)
Until now, schools across the Abbotsford School District have faced a common challenge: an overwhelming number of flyers and promotional materials from community organizations. From new daycare options and spring break camps to dance classes and football programs, schools were often tasked with distributing these materials to families—a process that was time-consuming and inconsistent.
To streamline this, the District introduced a new Administrative Procedure (AP 301-2) in Spring 2024, providing a clear and efficient system for sharing community information. This Community Bulletin procedure is the solution to that challenge. It is an opportunity for our community to let our families know what is available to our students, right here in Abbotsford. The Community Bulletin is gaining traction as schools love not having to distribute individual information, and local organizations enjoy the opportunity to offer valuable resources to our school district community. This ensures that families receive information for relevant extra-curricular opportunities while reducing the workload on school administration.
How It Works
Community organizations looking to share information with Abbotsford families can submit their details for approval through the district’s established process as outlined in AP 301-2. We are looking for activities that will enrich or promote healthy activity, learning enrichment, extra-curricular opportunities, or services that will be helpful or meaningful to our students and families.
Approved materials are then posted to the Community Bulletin page on the district website. This centralized approach ensures that families have easy access to community programs, and schools no longer need to manage the distribution themselves. The Community Bulletin is emailed to all families on a bi-monthly basis.
Why This Matters
This procedure benefits everyone:
-
Families get access to a curated list of community programs in one convenient location.
-
Schools save time by not having to distribute materials manually.
-
Community organizations gain a streamlined way to reach families without relying on individual school approvals.
