Navigating the Social Media Landscape
In today's ever-evolving digital world, social media's role in fostering connections and building community is undeniable. For us in the Communications Department, we're all about embracing these channels – it's our digital playground, after all. From the lighthearted reels we're crafting (have you seen our latest one about the puppies with Kindergarten students?) to our weekly interactions in the comments section (don't ask us how many times we googled "witty Gen Z phrases" during the snow days), our social media presence is space we use as an extension of our brand storytelling on the world wide web.
That said, we also recognize that these tools are changing and that navigating these platforms with a shared understanding and commitment is more critical than ever before to ensure digital interactions are safe, respectful, and aligned with our district's values. We're excited to announce that the revised (and new!) Administrative Procedures are here to better support employees on all things social.
AP 401: Social Media - Employees (Updated)
The revised Administrative Procedure for Social Media – Employees is not focused on imposing restrictions. Rather, we want to empower you to navigate the digital landscape confidently as a public sector employee.
AP 120: Social Media - Operations (New)
Our new Administrative Procedure for managing organizational social media accounts is equally important. It lays out clear guidelines for managing district, school, or classroom social media accounts. It provides steps to respond to challenges like inappropriate content, trolling, or hate speech. If you oversee workplace-related accounts, please take extra time to review AP 120: Social Media – Operations.
So, what's next? We're developing professional learning opportunities for this spring that will better support employees in understanding social media and how we use these tools in #AbbySchools.
